Diabetes is not a reason to say no – but it is a factor
Diabetes was long regarded as a reason to advise against an implant. The professional societies now take a more differentiated view: what counts is not the diagnosis but how well the blood sugar is controlled.
Where levels are stable, the prospects of success barely differ from those of other patients. Where diabetes is poorly controlled, however, the risk of impaired wound healing and of later inflammation around the implant rises.
In practice that means: raise your condition yourself and bring your current readings. A practice that does not ask about it is planning on incomplete information.
