Terms from implants to interdental space.
Implant loading, the forces acting on an implant.
Implant site preparation, preparing the bony site for an implant in the alveolar process.
alveolar process
Implants, implants are made of titanium, a material the body accepts like its own tissue. They are placed in the gap and form a stable base for the new teeth. They work like natural tooth roots.
Implant insertion, placing the implant.
Implant healing, the healing period during which the jawbone fuses with the implant.
Implant removal, explantation. It may become necessary where there is persistent, treatment-resistant inflammation at or around the implant (peri-implantitis), where the implant loosens, or where there is chronic nerve pain such as neuritis of the inferior alveolar nerve.
Implant shape, the external form of an implant. Screw-shaped implants have prevailed over blade-shaped ones.
Implant fracture, a mechanical failure of the implant body.
Implant exposure, in a two-stage placement the head of the implant is freed from the mucosa covering it once healing is complete (exposure surgery). The implant can then be restored, that is, the new tooth attached.
Implant placement, an oral surgical procedure; the act of placing an implant.
Implantation, introducing an implant into the body, here into the jawbone.
Implant-bone bond, the histological anchorage of the implant in the bone.
Implant loosening, breakdown around the implant produces horizontal, vertical and circular bone pockets, mostly as a result of inadequate cleaning by the patient, but also through incorrect loading and overloading of the superstructure while chewing, and rarely through technical design faults.
Implantology, the study of
implantation
Indication, the course of the illness indicates the further course of treatment.
Inlay, a high-quality filling of gold or ceramic for back teeth. Unlike plastic filling materials such as composite or amalgam, which can be placed immediately after the tooth is drilled, inlays are generally made in a dental laboratory and bonded in at a second appointment. In the meantime the tooth is fitted with a temporary.
amalgam
Interdental space, the space between two successive teeth in the same arch.
