Carious teeth must be treated as early as possible

Caries is an infectious dental disease that often occurs in children and is transmitted from person to person. In caries, metabolic products of bacteria damage the tooth enamel. The enamel is attacked and the tooth is damaged.

At the start the damage leads to decalcification, visible as lighter spots, so-called white spots. This discolouration is the first sign of incipient caries. Later, deposits of colour pigments from food turn the light spots dark or even black.

Carious teeth must be treated as early as possible. The sooner incipient caries is discovered, the better. If the outermost layer of enamel is still intact, early treatment and remineralisation together with subsequent fluoridation can still halt the course of the disease. With a low-viscosity resin that penetrates into the enamel caries, the diffusion paths for cariogenic acids can be blocked. The aim is to spare healthy tooth substance and to stop the caries at an early stage.
